Feeding America West Michigan donates water to Flint

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich (WZZM) -- Feeding America West Michigan has joined the effort to help the people of Flint.

Friday morning, the organization sent 10,000 bottles of water along with 4,500 pounds of food to The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan.

The Food Bank of Eastern Michigan is a major hub in Flint's disaster response efforts. They've been accepting donations from across the country, including a donation from singer, Cher.

Feeding America West Michigan say they are in the best possible position to help in an effort like this.

"When a crisis like the Flint water crisis arises, we are well positioned to address that. We already have the distribution mechanisms, we already have the trucks, we have the facilities," said Communication Specialist with Feeding America West Michigan, Andrew Steiner.

Conviction upheld in slaying triggered by pizza, rent

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. (WZZM) -- A Comstock Park man who fatally beat his cousin in a dispute over pizza, then fled with the victim’s wallet and cellphone  “because he was scared,’’ failed to convince a three-judge panel he was acting in self-defense.

Blood splatters in their Alpine Township apartment were consistent with Brandon Nelson being struck several times while on the ground, the Court of Appeals cited in upholding the second-degree murder conviction of 26-year-old Kyle Alan Wilson.

Wilson, who is serving a 46- to 150-year sentence, is no stranger to prison. He moved in with Nelson in 2013 after serving more than five years for killing a 15-year-old Barry County boy in a dispute over $80.

Alpine Township Business Association Cleaning Supply & Personal Hygiene Drive

The Alpine Township Business Association (ATBA) is conducting a cleaning supply and personal hygiene drive to assist local families in need.  ATBA kicked off the drive on Thursday, December 10, 2015 at our monthly membership meeting by asking members to bring a cleaning or personal hygiene item.  ATBA is now expanding the drive to the community by asking for our support.

When we think of giving back, our thoughts tend to focus on food, clothing and toys.  Basic needs such as bath wash, tooth paste, deodorant, shampoo, laundry detergent, floor cleaner, bleach, etc. are items that are all too often forgotten but very much needed for these families.

If you would like to help ATBA provide cleaning and personal hygiene products to our local families, bring an item to one of the follow drop off locations prior to January 31, 2016.

Culver's - 4280 Alpine Ave. - open daily 10:30 am - 10:00 pm
