COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. (WZZM) - A Colorado company has bought the second-largest brewer in West Michigan, Perrin Brewing in Comstock Park. Now, the new owners have announced a big change: the brewery will for the first time can its beer.

Keith Klopcic is the new president of Perrin Brewing Co. and says adding cans to the Perrin lineup is good for business.

"Well, it is really significant when the majority of the beer is sold in stores," explained Klopcic. "A lot of people think that the majority of it is sold in bars."

Having canned beers will mean Perrin will expand the reach of its product. Perrin cans will go into stores in the greater Grand Rapids area September 14th.

Klopcic says taste won't be impacted by the aluminum cans, "Today's technology, with the linings they have, is actually a better vessel for beers," said Klopcic. "It protects the beer from light from and oxidation."

Perrin Brewing will be expanding production in the months ahead to help keep up with the new demand for their canned beer, and with a building that can be expanded to 50,000 barrels and another 10 acres to build out, Perrin is in a position for massive growth.
