ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) --

UPDATE: After seeing his picture on the news, the family of the suspect was able to convince him to turn himself into the Kent County Sheriff’s Department. The suspect is a 22 year old from Grand Rapids and he was lodged at the Kent County Jail on the charge of armed robbery.

Original story:

The Kent County Sheriff Department is looking for the gunman who tried stealing from an Alpine Twp. gas station.

Deputies were called to the Mobil gas station on Alpine near Lamoreaux Drive around 6:30 p.m. Friday. A man had showed the clerk a black, semi-automatic handgun and demanded money. The clerk didn't give him any money, though, and he ran away, investigators said.

Authorities describe the suspect as a black man in his early to mid-20s, about 5'8", 215 to 225 lbs., with facial hair on his chin. He was last seen wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans. He's seen in the surveillance camera image above.
