Deer runs into Goodwill store | News
ALPINE TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WZZM) - It was a wild morning for employees at a Goodwill store in Kent County. Around 8 a.m. Wednesday, a deer ran through a window at the Goodwill store on Alpine Avenue near Six Mile Rd. NW.
Once inside, the eight-point buck was bloodied, panicked and disoriented. It tried jumping to get back outside, but was unable to.
The deer left merchandise damaged and blood on the walls before it wandered into a dressing room. Kent County Sheriff deputies were able close the dressing room door, and contain the buck for three hours until the DNR could arrive with a tranquilizer.
"He was calm in the dressing room so we let him stay. We called another person with a shorter range gun because our dart gun is longer range and wouldn't work in this situation. So we waited for that person to get here and then we tranquilized the deer and we were able to more easily assess the situation once we had him down," says DNR officer, Sarah Schaefer.
The deer had to be put down because of its injuries.
"Deer this time of year are not always thinking. They get to running around and get to the wrong place. He might have seen his reflection in the window and thought he needed to fight off that other deer and went through the window," says Schaefer.
