Congressman Huizenga Named Vice Chair of Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade

NEWS RELEASE

Last week at the Financial Services Committee organizational meeting, Congressman Bill Huizenga (MI-02) was nominated Vice Chairman of the Subcommittee on Monetary Policy and Trade (MPT).  MPT is one of five subcommittees of the prestigious Financial Services Committee.  As Vice Chair, Congressman Huizenga will assist Subcommittee Chairman John Campbell (CA-45) in running committee hearings and essential committee operations.   

"I am honored to be named Vice Chair of the Monetary Policy and Trade Subcommittee.  I look forward to working with both Chairman Jeb Hensarling and Subcommittee Chairman John Campbell to ensure the proper oversight of the Federal Reserve and to continue to monitor the impact of the euro zone's distress and its effects on the U.S.

Alpine Township Supervisor Alex Arends was invited by House Representative Rob VerHeulen to attend Governor Snyder's 2013 State of the State Address at the State Capitol Building in Lansing last week.  Alex described the experience as an honor and an opportunity.  "A foreign dignitary could not be treated any better than I was by our State Representative"  Arends quipped.  "I am very much looking forward to a good relationship with Representative VerHeulen", he said.  "As former Mayor of Walker, Rob understands local government."

Alpine Township Changing of the Guard

Monday night's meeting of the Alpine Township Board of Trustees was the last one for the board members who were elected in 2008.  Tuesday beginning at noon, the newly elected board will officially take office.

In Alpine Township this means it was the last board meeting for Ted Wallace Monday night, and at the conclusion of the meeting he was awarded with an Award of Appreciation for the dedication and commitment that he demonstrated during his eight years in office.  Ted served on numerous committees and also served as board liaison to the Fire Department. Guidelines for School Board Candidates who wish to run for the November 6, 2012 election may find information at www.accesskent.com. Petitions are available at this website or the Kent County Clerk’s office at 300 Monroe, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.

Filings must be made in the office of the Clerk by 4:00 PM on Tuesday, August 14, 2012.

Because of recent legislation, School Board Elections are now held in even-year November dates when gubernatorial or presidential elections take place. If you would like to serve on the Board of Education, state law requires that you be a United States Citizen and a qualifi ed and registered elector of the school district you wish to represent by the fi ling deadline.

Candidates must fi le a Nominating Petition and an Affi davit of Identity no later than 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday, August 14, 2012, to be included on the November 6, 2012, ballot. A nonrefundable $100 fi ling fee may be submitted in lieu of petition. Petitions must be fi led at the Kent County Clerk's Offi ce, 300 Monroe Avenue NW.
