COMSTOCK PARK, Mich. - Calling all superheroes to help in the fight against cancer! 

The theme for this year's event is "Superheroes - Finishing the Fight Against Cancer".  Please join our epic crusade at the 2014 Relay For Life Kickoff at Comstock Park High School on Thursday, Jan.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.-- The 6th annual Cancer Classic basketball games will take place Friday, Jan. 24 with proceeds benefiting Relay For Life of Comstock Park.

This year's opponent is Wyoming.  The varsity girls' game will be at 6:00 p.m. followed by the varsity boys' game.  Cancer Classic T-Shirts and crew sweatshirts will be available in the high school, Mill Creek and Pine Island offices for $10 (T-shirt) or $20 (crew sweatshirt) starting Tuesday, Jan. 21.  Admission to the games will be $3 with the purchase of a 2014 Cancer Classic T-Shirt or Crew Sweatshirt.

Varsity basketball teams to raise autism awareness Feb. 7

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich.— Four varsity basketball teams will take over the court next month to raise awareness about autism.

Union High School will play against Kenowa High School on Autism Awareness Night Friday, Feb. 7.  The event includes a half-time shoot out and drawings for prizes.  All proceeds from the games will go to Autism Support of Kent County.

General admission is $5 per person or free with the purchase of an autism awareness t-shirt.  T-shirts are $10 and available by contacting Martha Knoll-Loader at (616) 819-3918.

The girls’ varsity game will be at 6 p.m.; the boys will play at 7:30 p.m.  Both match ups will be at Union High School, located at 1800 Tremont Blvd. NW in Grand Rapids.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.— The owners of the West Michigan Whitecaps are promising their banquet will go on despite a Jan. 3 heater fire that destroyed a portion of Fifth Third Ballpark.

Tuesday is the last day to purchase tickets for the 20th Annual Winter Baseball Banquet.   Tigers President and CEO David Dombrowski and Cy Young Award winner Max Scherzer are expected to attend the event, scheduled for Thursday, Jan. 23 at DeVos Place in downtown Grand Rapids.

The banquet begins at 5:45 p.m. with a silent auction of sports memorabilia and other items.  A dinner, live auction and Whitecaps Hall of Fame induction ceremony will follow.  Whitecaps co-owners Lew Chamberlin and Dennis Baxter also plan to update guests on plans to rebuild Fifth Third Ballpark.

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.— The West Michigan Whitecaps could wear a jersey designed by you this summer.

Baseball fans are invited to design a uniform for the team as part of Social Media Night  on May 29.  All entries should be social media themed.  The deadline for submissions is noon on Jan. 15.  The top designs will be voted on by fans early next month.

The winner will get four tickets to the May 29 game, a copy of their jersey and  a chance to throw out the first pitch during the game.   For more information and a jersey submission form, click here.

Whitecaps unveil logo for All-Star Game

COMSTOCK PARK, Mich.-- The West Michigan Whitecaps are getting ready to host the 50th Midwest League All-Star Game.

The team unveiled the All-Star logo Tuesday.  Whitecaps executives chose a beer theme for the logo because of the recent boom in the local craft brewery industry, as well as Grand Rapids’ title of Beer City USA.

The team also announced tickets for the All-Star game will go on sale Tuesday, March 4, 2014. Tickets will range from $8 for lawn seating to $16 for premium box seats. Season tickets, luxury suites and private decks for the game can be reserved by calling the Whitecaps ticket department at (616) 784-4131.

The All-Star Game will take place at Fifth Third Ballpark Tuesday, June 17, 2014.   This is the third All-Star game the Whitecaps have hosted.

The 2014 Relay For Life of Comstock Park Committee is excited to begin the planning process for our May 16, 2014 event.  Teams re now forming and registration has started.

The theme for 2014 is Superheroes, which should be tons of fun to decorate and create entertaining games around.  Relay For Life of Comstock Park 2014 is all about fun while finishing the fight against cancer!  Whether you have an interest in being the captain of your team, a team member, a committee member or a volunteer, we invite you to join in the fun.
